A strong economy, highly educated population, and a wealth of recreational resources combine for an exceptional lifestyle that suits even the most discriminating tastes for residents living in Northwest Denver. Residents have access to the city’s extensive cultural and recreational resources, from professional sports to world class museums. In sports, Denver is home to professional hockey, football, basketball, soccer and arena football teams. The Rockies baseball team competes at Coors Field; the Broncos (NFL) and the Rapids (MLS) reside at INVESCO Field; and the Nuggets (NBA), Avalanche (NHL) and Crush (AFL) play at the Pepsi Center.
When there is no big game to watch, Denver museums have something of interest for the whole family. Options include the Denver Museum of Natural History, Children’s Museum of Denver, Denver Mint, Byers-Evans House and Museo de las Américas. For those interested in faster-paced attractions, Six Flags Elitch Gardens Theme Park, Lakeside Amusement Park and Water World are also nearby. Several more landmarks and attractions are convenient to residents of the Northwest section of the city. Highland’s own historic neighborhoods—Potter’s Row and West 28th Historic District—are definitely worth a visit. Potter’s Row, located on Bryant Street, features beautifully renovated Victorian homes. The neighborhood of Highland—often confused with Highlands Ranch, a separate suburb 20 miles from Highland—is a neighborhood with much diversity in addition to some of the most unique architecture. The West 28th District, also known as Stoneman’s Row, contains early 20th century homes built of flagstone. When construction of the Platt River Bridge in the Central Platte Valley, Millennium Bridge, and Highland Bridge over Interstate 25 were completed in 2006, residents of Highland could now have easy access to the downtown area. This has led to a rapid growth over the years, making this area one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in terms of real estate. Denver is also known for its active golfing and skiing communities. Ski resorts are plentiful in the mountains just west of the city; the closest facilities are Eldora Mountain Resort, SolVista Golf and Ski Ranch and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. For golf, Northwest Denver residents are closest to Omni Interlocken Golf Resort and West Woods Golf Club. Many more courses are situated throughout the city, including Arrowhead Golf Club, Park Hill Golf Club, Thorncreek Golf Course and Vista Ridge. |
